“The Great Mother lives. Her body is the earth below us, giving birth to everything living and nourishing it. She is life, and her secrets are the secrets of life.”
Now is the time to re-awaken to a renewed appreciation of life and its sublime energy that informs and sustains us. Life demands two things: growth and balance. As conscious beings we can chose to actively participate in the endeavor of conscious transformation. Through the “alchemy of self-transformation,” by attending to our innermost being we can change the “larger whole” or our surroundings.
“He then learns that in going down into the secrets of his own mind he has descended into the secrets of all minds.” ~ R.W. Emerson
The “male principle” has been overly invoked in our civilization and needs to be counterbalanced by the “feminine principle” and the intuitive. Through our rational approach we have disassembled ourselves and our world into isolated fragments. The need of our times is such that we must reconnect those fragments with the whole once again. The “male principle” implies unceasing activity in all its egoic guises whereas the ‘feminine principle’ represents the opposite polarity of receptivity or silence. This does not imply retreating into some passive mode, rather touching upon those forces that build from that invisible silence of all creation. It means becoming conscious of that silent creative force within us, which is the same creative force in the greater cosmos. As balanced individuals we would then be demonstrating “action in repose” or “creative silence” in all our endeavors. This would be true “skill in action” in accord with our surroundings, in tune with the infinite aspect of life.
The feminine… that most tender and refined quality of creation nourishes us at every moment of our lives and gives unceasingly without limit. Womankind is her embodiment and should therefore be revered:
“The dignity of a woman’s life is infinite – her status immeasurable, her capacity unbounded, her role divine. She fulfills the role of sustainer, creator and promoter of life. She is that focal point from which radiates serenity. In the fast changing world of today, her vision penetrates into the reality of the far beyond, the reality which endures beyond change.” ~ Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
“From a sensitive woman’s heart springs the happiness of mankind, and from the kindness of her noble spirit comes mankind’s affection.” ~ Kahlil Gibran
In our efforts to right the inequalities and injustices with respect to gender we have lost sight of the complimentarity and interdependence of gender roles. Who we truly are transcends biological identities but as “actors on the stage of life” we should give deference to the roles we play. To come into touch with the tenderest feeling level is to come into touch with the divine feminine and know that “mother is at home” and that somehow, despite all our reasoning, all is well with the world. In a world of birth and death, pleasure and pain, she is the soothing balm that heals our wounds on the deepest level of our souls; she is the “Divine Mistress,” “Supernal Beauty” incarnate and heaven brought to earth.
“O Woman, you are not merely the handiwork of God, but also of men; these are ever endowing you with beauty from their own hearts. . . . You are one-half woman and one-half dream.”
“A thousand years’ effort is worthwhile to win a woman’s heart.”
“I seem to have loved you in numberless forms, numberless times, in life after life, in age after age forever.”
~ Rabindranath Tagore
